Classic Itineraries in Bergamo

Upper Town: classic itinerary (length: about 3 hours, morning or afternoon)

Meeting in Colle Aperto with the guide or at the Cab Railway Station for a classic tour of Città Alta (Cittadella, Corsarola, Piazza Vecchia, Piazza Duomo, Santa Maria Maggiore Church, Colleoni Chapel, washhouse, Gombito Tower, Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe and, when possible, Rocca or S. Francesco Convent). Possibility to organize a tasting break in a typical restaurant or a typical lunch.

Lower Town: classic itinerary (length: about 3 hours, morning or afternoon)

Meeting in Piazzale Marconi or Porta Nuova with the guide and classic tour of the centre (Propilei, Matteotti Square, Via XX Settembre, Via S. Alessandro, S. Alessandro della Croce Church, Sentierone, Dante Square, S. Bartolomeo Church, Via Tasso, S. Spirito Church). Possibility to book a buffet lunch in a typical restaurant of the centre.

A day in Bergamo (length: full day 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

Meeting in Colle Aperto or at the Cab Railway station with the guide and classic tour of  Bergamo Alta (Cittadella, Corsarola, Piazza Vecchia, Piazza Duomo, Santa Maria Maggiore Church, Colleoni’s Chapel, washhouse, Gombito Tower, Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe and, when possible, Rocca or S. Francesco Convent). Time on your hands for a free lunch or a typical buffet lunch. In the afternoon tour of the lower town: visit of the Piacentiniano centre and the Renaissance villages. Possibility to organize a typical lunch or a buffet lunch in a historic restaurant.

Tour in the museums of the city (length: 2 hours, 2 hours and a half, morning or afternoon):

Palazzo della Ragione: Carrara paintings (2 hours’ tour).

Gamec: visit of art exhibitions (2 hours).

Other visits: archaeological museum, historic museum, natural sciences museum, Donizetti’s museum, sacral art museum and diocesano museum.

Bergamo Happy Hour (length: 3 hours, usually in the afternoon)

Classic historical itinerary in Città Alta (Cittadella, Corsarola, Piazza Vecchia, Piazza Duomo, Santa Maria Maggiore Church, Colleoni’s Chapel, washhouse, Gombito Tower, Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe) follone by an aperitif (white or red Valcalepio wine with cold cuts and local cheese) in an ancient cellar of the ‘400’s  or in a historic or panoramic restaurant.

It it possible to book a typical dinner.

Gourmet Itinerary (length: 3 hours, morning or afternoon)

Itinerary in Città Alta discovering tastes of Bergamo: cold cuts, cheese, wines and cakes. Three gastronomic breaks in historic restaurants during a guided walk in the centre exploring typical stories and legends.

Bergamo by night (length: 2 hours, late afternoon 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.)

Guided tour of Città Alta during late afternoon (Cittadella, Corsarola, Piazza Vecchia, Piazza Duomo with an external view of Santa Maria Maggiore Church and Colleoni’s Chapel, washhouse, Gombito Tower). Instead of entering the monuments, closed after 5.30 p.m., stop along the walls to look at S. Giacomo gate and the wonderful sight of the Lower Town at sunset.

The tour is usually followed by a dinner in a local restaurant and the possibility to take a short night walk through the less known streets before returning at the hotel.

Romantic Bergamo (length: 3 hours, morning or afternoon)

meeting in Colle Aperto or at the Cab Railway Station with the guide and classic tour of Città Alta (Cittadella, Corsarola, Piazza Vecchia, Piazza Duomo Santa Maria Maggiore Church and Colleoni’s Chapel, washhouse, Gombito Tower, Rocca) with particular attention to the romantic legends, looking for the less known places and the most evocative ones.

During the tour short breakfast break (tea, coffee or hot chocolate with pastries) or aperitif (white or red Valcalepio wine with appetizers). Possibilty to reserve a romantic lunch or dinner by candlelight in a panoramic restaurant in S. Vigilio.
